Errands with an edge

When bumming around running errands, I like to be comfortable, and in MN weather, cozy. I'm going to be honest with you...I NEVER thought I would like the "wedge sneaker" trend. Quite frankly, I thought they were, well, tacky. And most of them are, but I did find a pair that I like. They don't have a crazy-high wedge, but have just enough detail to give them a little something extra. I wore these all day shopping in Soho when I was in New York last week, and they are extremely comfortable! Paired with some skinnies and a chic vest, I'm ready to be-bop around the city.

City Guide: Twin Cities

I absolutely love to travel. Exploring different regions, tasting their cuisines, and most importantly, shopping in their local boutiques! I'll be featuring my favorite travel spots from time to time, but first off I need to feature my hometown. Without further adieu, my top locales to check out in the Twin Cities:

Sleep: W Minneapolis - Trendy, Sexy, and Historical. They also throw some amazing parties.
Saint Paul Hotel - Classy, Timeless, Elegant. They serve high tea, as well!
The Hotel Ivy - Understated sophistication. Arguably the best spa in the city.
Eat:    Broders' Pasta Bar - Fresh, classic Italian. My favorite restaurant in the Twin Cities.
The Mill Northeast - Delicious brunch at this recently re-opened spot.
WA Frost - Elegant restaurant in Cathedral Hill. Also voted 'best patio' in the Summer.
Drink: The Happy Gnome - Best Bloody Mary (pair it with their delicious Sunday brunch)
Marvel Bar - Minneapolis speakeasy with crafty cocktails.
Borough/Parlour - Cozy space with delicious coctails. Parlour is below Borough.
Shop: June Resale - Hands down, my favorite shop in MSP. Amazing designer finds! And the owner is pretty fab, too (hey, Daune!)
gh2 - Great consignment Northeast. Amazing European designers!
Arrow - Modern, luxe, trendy. Incredible finds in the North Loop.
Explore: Minneapolis Institute of Arts - Check out the impressionists, as well as the Egyptian wing.
Target Field - Best stadium in the country. Amazing food, gorgeous views, and, well, baseball!
St. Paul Gangster Tour - St. Paul was crawling with gangsters during prohibition. Check out this tour! This picture is a house the Barker-Karpis gang was staying in while on the "lam".

What are your favorite places in Minneapolis/St. Paul?

Natalie's Most Wanted: Handbags

Having just returned from the streets of New York Fashion Week, it's safe to say I'm obsessed with bags (did the obsession ever really leave? Probably not). Being surrounded by the handbag-elite (read: Gucci! Chanel! Hermes! Oh my!) I was ready to throw down some serious dough on a new bag. Luckily, I wandered into the Tory Burch store in Soho and was seduced by a more moderately-priced, albeit classic, navy tote. This satisfied my need for a new handbag...for about 5 minutes. Which brings me to my list...the most lust-worthy bags for Spring!

Kate Spade "Carroll Park - Penelope' Satchel

3.1 Phillip Lim 'Pashli - Medium' Shark Embossed Satchel

Rebecca Minkoff 'Milo' Hobo

Tory Burch '797 Medium' Satchel

Valentino 'Rockstud - Camo' Flap Clutch

Which bag will be on your arm this Spring?

Love is in the air...

When I think of a quaint date spot in Minneapolis, I immediately think of Aster Cafe. When I think of quaint first-date outfit, I think Chanel, Dior, and pink. Lots of pink. Combine the two? Boom. Perfect night! This restaurant has a great menu, and often has really fun live music.

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie...

That's Amore! A few weeks ago, I took a class at Kitchen Window in Uptown. We learned "the fundamentals of fresh pasta", and made 4 different types of pasta with different sauces. My personal favorite? The fettuccine noodles with the red sauce. Luckily for me (and anyone I cook for in the future) it was also the easiest one to make!

Fresh Pasta:
2 Eggs
2 T Water
1t Salt
1 1/2 Cups Flour

Combine flour and salt, and make a "mountain" on your countertop. Form a hole in the middle, add water and eggs. Whisk eggs while slowly adding flour. This will eventually form into a nice, textured dough. Wrap in plastic wrap and place in fridge for 20 minutes to cool.

Bust out your pasta maker, and feed pasta through to make fettuccini noodles. Place on baking sheet until ready to boil (fresh pasta cooks really fast!) Place noodles in boiling water for 3-4 minutes.Tada

Red Sauce:
2 28oz cans San Marzano tomatoes
2 T Sugar
2 T Salt
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
4 T Fresh Basil, Minced

Combine all ingredients in saucepan on stovetop. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Feel free to play with other ingredients like garlic, red pepper, or oregano.

Pour sauce on noodles and serve! I like to sprinkle some freshly grated Parmesan on mine!

Bon appetit!

Casual-Chic Travel Style

I leave for New York tomorrow with my dear friend Jess. I am so excited to be back in the city! I love traveling, and I'm always looking for the perfect comfy-chic ensemble to wear while being frisked by airport security. I love this assortment of oversized accessories! And I've been dreaming of this Michael Kors saffiano leather tote as my new carry-on for a long, long time. All I need is a good book (I swear, all I read is Fitzgerald and military books. This particular nonfiction is Chris Kyle's autobiography) and I'm cleared for takeoff!

Snow Sharks & Sorel Boots

Because it has been so cold, I caved and ordered the Sorel boots I've been lusting after for a while now. I'll admit, it took some time to get used to walking in them - they are rather heavy and a little bulky. They are extremely warm, and based on the forecast, I'll get plenty of use out of them in the coming months (thanks, Punxsutawney Phil...)

My best friend/photographer laughed a little when I mentioned where I wanted to take these pictures. "The snow shark?!" she asked, "as in, the one that was on the news? Isn't that in someone's front yard?" Little did she know, we would have the best time ever, and it was the perfect location to debut my cozy-chic boots.
